And this is a good idea. Fraud is commonplace and potentially getting worse with AI.
There are some good suggestions on honeypot questions along with other techniques in our Fraud Detection Tookit
Perhaps the strongest general technique to date is using multple sources and comparing metrics as Fraud is typically clustered by panel provider particularky those with poor KYC (know your customer) controls. For example Time spent on the survey shouldn’t differ across paels. IR and demographic splits shouldn’t either unless there are good reasons - such as targeted recruitment.
The most reliable method, we think, is comparing choice models from different panels using the LR statistic. While it’s easy to fake honeypot questions - recreating a typical preference profile with no priors and no knowledge of the experimental design, nor other panels is virtually unthinkable. Furthermore - even AI will do poorly here as the studies you guys do are nearly always novel.
